About Sahil
I'm currently a freshman at Stony Brook University and am majoring in Applied Mathematics & Statistics. I have tutored students all throughout my middle school and high school career through my school's Peer Tutoring Program. I can connect well with other students and explain complex mathematical scenarios in easy to understand ways. I was 2 years ahead of my grade level in my math and science classes, I began by taking Algebra 1 and Biology in 7th grade. I performed very well on all of my mathematics exams even throughout my short time at college so far. All of the students that I have tutored in person saw significant progress in their math capabilities and displayed increased fluency and speed while solving problems. So far, I have tutored one student online and within 4 weeks of sessions he went from not understanding the lessons his teacher taught him to gaining proficiency in Algebra 1, he got a 98 on his regents exam.
I love helping fellow students understand their weaknesses in specific topics, the look on their face when they finally get what it is that they've been doing wrong is why I love doing it. When I hear that someone I tutored did much better on an exam than they thought they would've it brings me joy, so much so that I've thought about becoming a teacher many times!
It all started in 6th grade when I got switched from regular 6th grade math to the 7th grade honors math class mid-year because I maintained a 100 average for the first 2 quarters and found myself bored by the material as it wasn't difficult enough for me.
I was a tutor for 7 years in my middle school and high school's Peer Tutoring Program for math and science.

First I assess their current ability in whichever subject it is that they are struggling with by giving them example questions from each unit in that course's curriculum. I find out what it is that they do understand by viewing the steps they took to get to the answer, not only if they got it correct. I can see exactly where they made the error and work with them to sort out their confusion.
I have worked with tens of students so far varying in grade levels, exam scores, and their levels of understanding in their courses and have always been able to help clarify topics that they found difficult.
Try out one session with me to see if you I can help you identify your issues, if not no harm done but I strongly believe you'll see improvement.
Just last year in April my parents told me that one of their friend's sons was having trouble with Algebra 1 and his regents exam was in a little over a month's time. He struggled with some of the later topics in the curriculum because his teacher went too fast during class and by the time he realized he didn't understand much of the classwork it seemed diificult for him to get all the concepts before the time came to take the test. Over a period of a month I observed his growth in ability and confidence and when I later heard that he received a 98 on the exam I felt proud of the work I was able to do with him.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I find most times that when students fail to properly execute the steps to solve a problem it's because they hesitated to voice their uneasiness with a certain concept to their teacher or tutor. Do not be shy when it comes to asking questions, there are no stupid questions and the more ask the more confident you will feel!

I heard about Sahil through my uncle who told me that he helped his son who was failing Algebra 2 to get a 91 on his regents exam. I took a month of online tutoring sessions with him right before my Algebra 1 regents exam and he helped me understand certain topics that I was struggling with during class. June came around and I ended up getting a 98 on the exam. I recommend being tutored by him as I gained a lot of confidence before heading into the test after only a couple of sessions.
