About Kevin
I find learning to be an exciting endeavor and expanding people's knowledge through teaching is fulfilling to me. I have provided tutelage to college students in Mathematics and Engineering subjects while an undergraduate at New York University and also served as an Engineering Teaching Assistant during my graduate school studies. I have experience tutoring one on one and in a class room setting, as well as experience lecturing during recitation periods to a large class of graduate level engineers at Carnegie Mellon University. I am able to communicate well to students and explain concepts in a manner that is easy to understand - this is usually tailored to the student's ability during one on one tutoring sessions. The scope of my instruction includes assisting with Mathematics from Algebra, Geometry, all the way to Complex Variables or upper college level Mathematics. Also since I am a professional engineer, and it happens to be what I'm most passionate about, I enjoy speaking, and teaching engineering theory (even practical aspects) as it relates to Electrical and Computer Engineering. One of the best takeaways from providing academic assistance is the satisfaction I receive from seeing marked improvement in the performance of my students. Giving students the tools and resources to help them be successful in the classroom and break past academic hurdles ultimately helps to bring me the satisfaction I take pride in, and most importantly, the students' academic promotion to the next level.
I started tutoring as an undergraduate at the engineering school of NYU. I found the tutoring experience very rewarding at the time because it helped me to understand my subjects with better clarity and also helped to approach problem solving with broader perspective (teaching helped to identify concepts that I needed deeper understanding of).
I am a professional engineer with an extensive experience base in mathematics, physical sciences, and engineering subjects. My line of work requires using concepts in all of these areas which helps to minimize the difficulty of knowledge transfer during instruction sessions.

I typically spend the early sessions developing an understanding of the student's strengths and weaknesses. As additional sessions transpire and it becomes clear what the needs of the student are, lessons become more tailored to addressing those needs, particularly in weaker areas.
I have worked with high school students studying Geometry, Algebra, and Pre-Calculus; college students at the undergraduate and graduate level (control systems, general electrical engineering, upper, and lower level mathematics).
Ensure the goals of the teacher/instructor align very closely with your goals. Also, to get the most from the instruction/learning experience, ensure that you can identify your weaknesses and strengths and ask questions pertaining to maximizing your instruction in the areas you are weak in.
Most recently, a previous student of mine was accepted to USC and is now pursuing an engineering degree. I enjoyed witnessing her progression from a high schooler having difficulty in mathematics to a now savvy, technically inclined engineer in the making.

Mr. Davis was my saving grace when preparing for the GRE. His extensive knowledge of the subject matter and tailored plan enabled me to increase my knowledge of the area in Math that I was weakest. I was able to increase my score on the practice exams in a very short period and went on to score very well on the exam. Mr. Davis' patience during my most frustrated moments helped me to regroup and pay close attention to the subject matter.
Had a good experience with Kevin. He's one of the most passionate tutors I've had. He took the time to tailor his teaching to a style that worked best for me. I was able to increase my knowledge and love for Math- thanks to Kevin. I highly recommend him.
Had Mr. Davis for Algebra. I didnt understand how he tutored without a book but its probably because he knew all the material i was learning. There is no standard pricing system I use. I prefer to start at a fair market base and adjust according to the difficulty of the instruction relative to other subjects I've tutored in the past. Prices are typically negotiable to within reasonable tolerances.
