About Murtaza
Hey, I'm Murtaza. I study CS at Yale, having completed my A-levels at Dubai College. I'm good at explaining technical things, whether that's conveying the logic of a piece of code or breaking down a mathematical argument. I have taught CS50 to students at my high school who have gone on to succeed in the AP CS Principles exam, and since 2016 have been offering my peers and family friends tutoring services for which I have been paid (in food and money).
I can definitely help with undergraduate (and below) core CS classes, and some more advanced topics too (web in particular). I am comfortable with Python, Javascript and C, but can help with any language or technology you would need to learn for a college degree.
I am confident in helping with high-school level math (and physics) as well. Math would be my favorite subject if programming wasn't so fun.
If you want some statistics, I got perfect SAT II Math and Physics scores, a 35 on the ACT, 4 A*s in my A-levels (British high school exams, equal to two years of entry-level college courses each), and my lowest grade at college so far has been a B+. But I don't think these statistics are as relevant as my ability to explain things clearly, concisely and patiently. Please check out some reviews below to see what other people think of my teaching style.
I offer a free session so we can get to know each other and you can decide if you like my teaching style.
Don't hesitate to get in contact about anything CS or Math related. I am here to help! You can email me directly at (concealed information) if you wish.
(My US phone number is not active at the moment; the number listed is my home number, an international number. You can WhatsApp me there, but please add a + before the number)
Nothing compares to the satisfaction of helping a student understand something that they have been struggling with for a while. It's also interesting to see how different students understand things in different ways. One explanation might sound like gibberish while another might be perfect.
I love working with students of all ages! Younger kids have the potential to burning passion for mathematics, and it can be a challenge to figure out what makes something click for them, while older kids will likely be working on interesting projects and problems.
I taught CS50 (Harvard's intro to CS class, the most popular course both at Harvard and among online courses) at my high school (Dubai College) with a team of other students led by the head of the CS department.
I have always enjoyed helping people understand things. My friends at school always come to me for help when they're stuck, and I have been told I am a natural teacher. I am not in this for the money.
I am 3 years into a BS in Computer Science at Yale. I have completed all the core requirements (including systems programming, algorithms and discrete math) and several electives (including graphics and natural language processing).
I have been programming for 7 years and have worked on various personal projects in that time, with particular experience in web development. I primarily work with Python when I can, and I am confident in C, JavaScript and several other languages. I can pick up any new language quickly.
I studied Mathematics (and Further Mathematics), Physics and Computer Science at A-level and have taken math-major courses at college. I am comfortable teaching high-school level math and physics and select undergraduate level topics.

If you need help with a single assignment or topic, we dive straight into it. It helps a lot if you give me a few details before the meeting so I know exactly what you need help with and prepare some resources.
If you want ongoing support, we will spend a good chunk of time during the first (free!) meeting getting to know each other, as well as communicating about your objectives from tutoring, particular topics and improvement areas you want to focus on, and the syllabus of your class. I will spend the rest of the time teaching, so you can decide if you like my teaching style.
Paying a tutor to help you academically is not the same as casting a make-me-smarter spell. With programming and math in particular, it takes effort and practice to gain something from tutoring. There's no substitute for experience, whether that's working on a project or trying your hand at challenging problems and puzzles.
But it's fun! A lot of people hate my subjects, and I think the main reason is that they can look intimidating. But with the right teacher, the lightbulb moments are unparalleled and can be addictive.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What do you want to get out of this? What areas of the subject do you need help with? Are there particular areas of difficulty or specific questions you have to ask? Are you willing to put effort in to learn?

he's great at counting up to 5!
He makes sure we understand why we do certain things we do while programming, and puts enough time for us to understand and comprehend. He helped us 4 hours straight for two occasions, an absolute legend.
