About William
I've always had a love for learning, and through my studies and professional experience, I have found that the best way to learn something is to have it taught in a context meaningful to you. This, along with my strong desire to help those in need, lead to the discovery that I really enjoy helping others learn through tutoring. Coming from an engineering background, I understand how tough STEM concepts can be. I find it really rewarding to work through problems step-by-step with others in order to help them achieve a level of understanding in which they feel confident in the material. To me, it's easiest to learn through example, repitition, and mind tricks/associations to help me remember a concept; so this is the way I approach tutoring other students.
I've been tutoring for about 6 years, 3 years of which professionally. As previously stated, I come from an engineeing and STEM background. I've completed my B.S. degree in materials science engineering at Alfred University in Alfred NY, so I'm well versed in a wide variety of maths and sciences. As a scholar, I've presided as an ambassador for Alfred University's honors program, and my thesis to wrap up my degree is now a published scientific paper.

I got started just helping my peers out with gen-eds in my underclassman years at Alfred University. Along with this, I also would help out friends and family. This evolved into a passion for tutoring, and eventually I expanded into working as a tutor professionally.
I have my B.S. in Materials Science Engineering from Alfred University in Alfred, NY (an ABET accredited program and school). I've worked professionally as a math/science tutor and assistant instructor for the SUNY University at Albany's EOP (Educational Opportunities Program) office for 3 years. I've also received my TEFL certificate as of this year (2020).

Typically, I like working through a given problem step-by-step, and then focus on explaining things more in depth upon the completion of a problem. I like to teach though example and repitition; and if necessary, tricks to help memorize concepts.
I've worked with a wide variety of students. Freelancing, I worked with students ranging from elementary school to high school students. During my time with EOP, I had the opportunity to work with high school and college students as well.
It's important to know their credibility beforehand, and verify that what you're being taught by them is correct. It's also crucial that a teacher teaching areas of STEM be open-minded when it comes to explaining things in a way that an individual student can understand.
Review

Perfect! I was nervous about doing online tutoring and that it would not be as helpful. My session with Hogan felt like it was in person! He was patient with me, went at my pace, let me try to do the problems on my own when I wanted to, and always let me ask questions. I feel very confident in my business calc exam tomorrow and will be coming back to him for future tutoring. Highly recommended.
