It is key to recognize what each student needs and to adapt the discussion and techniques for the individual.

Each student gets the one-on-one attention that they need with a simple, step-by-step approach.

One size doesn't fit all, so my approach is flexible and uses "question based learning" - so the student comes up with the right answers and can explain them back.

It's rewarding to be able to share knowledge and help young people to build confidence in their abilities and achieve their goals.

Honestly, my "teaching career" started very early, even before college.  I have always enjoyed sharing knowledge with others.

Many aspects of my professional career in business and technology also involved training, presentations, and working with many levels of staff and management across multiple industries.

For most of my career, I have been a subject matter expert and involved with training in business and technology.  This translates very well to student education.

It is key to recognize what each student needs and adapt the discussion and techniques for them to master a subject. To start, I would chat a bit with the parents to get their take on it, and then with the student.

Sometimes, what students need isn't always the subject, but making sure that they take the time to understand the question before leaping in to solve it.

I give each student the one-on-one attention they need with a simple, step-by-step approach. Core skill development is certainly important.

I am fortunate to have worked with a diverse mix of students, grades 1 - 12.  Most of my focus has been middle and elementary students, especially with math, English, and history, where I can make a big impact to a child's learning.

Recognize that knowing the subject is only the very start.  A good teacher must be able to connect with the student and frame a lesson accordingly.

Often, we must not only teach HOW but also WHY, with real-world application.  So, they "get it", that learning is truly useful.

All teachers love when students have "ah-ha" moments, and I'm no exception. They are satisfying and fortunately we get to enjoy them fairly often.

Recently, a student of mine was having a tough time with pre-algebra.  Her frustration was evident from her posture alone, and I went over to help. She instantly exclaimed, "I just don't get it"!

I encouraged her to take a breath then, "lets lean back, relax and just tackle it one-step-at-a-time". Then proceeded to ask, "Ok, so what shall we do first"? ...

In a moment, she saw that it wasn't a big problem anymore, smiled and took that equation down like a pro.

Yes, indeed, we love those moments.
