About Andrew
I am an experienced upright and electric bass instructor and performer. I hold a B.M. in Jazz/Commercial Music performance from Cal State Fullerton. My current employment is as a bass intructor for 2 high schools and 2 middle schools, as well as my own private studio that caters to a similar age group. I perform regularly in Orange County and Los Angeles, and lead my own jazz big band based in Fullerton. My classical experience as an ensemble player allows me to teach both jazz and orchestral students. I encourage but do not require participation in both genres.
I enjoy helping students become passionate about the arts, and using bass to teach lessons that are applicable beyond participation in music. I emphasize work ethic, good study/practice habits, and the ability to work towards long and short term goals simultaneously.
I was recommended to students by one of my former college bass teachers.
I have a B.M. in Jazz/Commercial Performance from Cal State Fullerton, and am an experienced performer.

I emphasize the creation of a good foundation of technique and musical knowledge to ensure long term growth.
High school, middle school, and adut learners.
Have a clear idea of what your long and short term goals are so your teacher has an idea of what you want from lessons. I can tailor my approach to the needs/desires of a student, but only if I am aware of what those needs/desires are.
One of my first students is pursuing a degree in bass performance, and auditioned straight into the top ensembles for the college.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I encourage my students to send me questions between lessons. I would rather answer a quick question ahead of time than spend lessons fixing problems that could have been easily resolved through good communication.

I took lessons from Andrew for two years to prepare for college and I couldn't recommend him more. He always showed up on time (early), was very patient and constructive in his teaching, and knew what he was talking about inside and out. The time I studied with him allowed me to have a solid foundation for studying and playing in various college ensembles. Again, I couldn't recommend Andrew more!
I had a very positive experience with Andrew. I spent around two years with him before going into a college music program, and as a result I was more than prepared to be successful in different jazz ensembles that were offered there. Andrew always came to lessons on time, prepared, and positive. I would definitely recommend him!
