About Rich
Infidel. Heretic. Skeptic. Geek. Photographer. And proud of it.
While my primary emphasis is the portrait photograph, I am not a commercially trained portrait studio photographer.
I prefer to bring the approach of the landscape photographer - watching, waiting, and being ready when that perfect moment presents itself.
While I shoot digitally more and more, I'm still "old school" in the sense that my photographs are made in the camera, not the computer. I don't do "head swaps" or digitally insert people into backgrounds that weren't there when we did the shoot.
The studio really isn't my thing.
I enjoy working with people in their own environment, where they're comfortable, doing the things they love to do.
I was a teaching assistant, lab assistant, and tutor all through my college years.
I've taught subjects as varied as German, English, algebra, geometry, Computer Literacy, Introduction to Computer Science, Algorithms and Data Structures, C/C++ programming, JAVA programming, and photography.
My formal education is in Computer Science.
In photography I am largely autodidactic.
I have had the honor of being mentored by some very talented and skilled photographers including Val Brinkerhoff, Joyce Tenneson, Paul Elledge, Leasha Overturf, and Jock Sturges.

That depends largely on the student, and what they want to accomplish.
Newcomers to photography may need help learning their camera controls and basic technique.
Those already comfortable working their cameras can focus more on selecting their subject, composition, and developing their unique personal style.
Students of all ages, ranging from elementary through college.
