About Austin

I started playing piano when I was 8 years old and took lessons from 2 different instructors. They taught me both reading music and music theory. With these two skills, I teach students fundamentals in piano playing which will help them excel much faster than learning specific or technical work on piano. By learning quickly, they will be able to enjoy the process.

In the beginning, we will focus on basic chords and chord progressions. After getting the hang of the basics, we will move on to learning songs that they wish to learn as quickly as possible. They will learn at their own pace. If there is any confusion or questions, we will address them along the way. I will make sure they feel they are actually learning instead of spinning their wheels.

High school students and children

Make sure they teach music theory but most importantly, that they are passionate about the instrument. Never hire someone who says you have to learn piano any certain way. Always make sure they teach fundamentals first (music theory). If your child hasn't expressed any interest in piano but you think it would be cool for them to learn an instrument...don't get them involved with piano lessons. They likely won't stick with it. Also, if you do start them in piano lessons because they've shown interest, never treat their lessons like homework. Never tell them they should be practicing. Even one time telling them this can drastically lower an interest in an otherwise promising pursuit.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Am I learning to play piano because I'm truly passionate about it?

Am I getting piano lessons for my child because he/she truly wants to learn, or is it more a motivation of mine?

What kind of music do I enjoy to listen to the most and wish to play?

What are the real reasons I wish to learn?
