About Claudia
I recognize that every student is different in the way that they learn and take in new information. My job as their teacher is to teach them in a way that suits their unique learning needs. It is also my job to create an environment that is fun and safe for learning. I do this by celebrating every success--even the little ones! Success varies from student to student, but it will never go unnoticed.
I LOVE celebrating all of the little successes, not just the big ones. It is incredibly motivating for both the student and myself! Watching the joy in a student's face when they achieve even the smallest of goals is endlessly rewarding, and it is the exact reason why I teach.
I graduated with a Bachelors of Music in Viola Performance from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University in 2017, and earned both a Masters in Music and a Doctorate degree in Music Performance in 2019 and 2022 from the University of Georgia. I am trained to teach the Suzuki Method beginner-Book 5 for violin and beginner-Book 3 for viola, and have taken numerous string pedagogy classes to broaden my pedagogical approaches.

I have two methods/books that I use for teaching: The Suzuki method and Essential Elements
The Suzuki method is my preferred method of teaching. It works well for students of any age--the younger the better! It is based on the philosophy that all children have the potential to learn and develop musical abilities, it is simply reliant on providing a nurturing environment for learning. The Suzuki method takes an immersive approach to learning music, similar to how a young child learns how to speak.
The Essential Elements approach is what I usually select for older students, or students who can already read music or play another instrument. The layout of the books introduces music reading right from the beginning, and has a precise system for how each new element of violin/viola playing is introduced. This method emphasizes a commitment to daily practice.
Though these two methods are preferred since they start from scratch, I am ALWAYS open to catering to each student's preferences or requests! I love venturing into different genres or styles if the student is interested in trying something new!
I have worked with students of all ages--starting at three years old and many adult students as well!

Details
I charge a flat-rate tuition. It varies session-to-session (spring, summer, fall/winter), but essentially this means that the rate does not fluctuate month-to-month based on how many lessons are taught (off weeks for breaks/holidays are already factored in). I require monthly tuition payments within the first week of each month. If you have any questions about how flate-rate tuition works I am happy to discuss!
Here are the current monthly rates for 30 minute, 45 minute, and 60 minute lessons:
30 minute lesson monthly rate: $140
45 minute lesson monthly rate: $197
60 minute lesson monthly rate:$250
