About Larry
I offer an indepth and hands on approach to my lessons. More of a personal trainer than an instructor.
Everything I teach, I do with you. I will cater to your level of experience. No two students are the same, but all students should be able to enjoy and experience the rush of surfing
I've been surfing for most of my life, 20 years, and just being able to share the thrill of surfing with others is one of the greatest feeling for me. Everything I know about surfing, I've taught myself. I threw myself on a surfboard at a yong age, and my passion for surfing blossomed from there.
I've competed in multiple surf competitions, surfed up and down the California coast and all over Hawaii
I first started teaching as just a hobby for friends who wanted to surf with me. Then one of my friends said "you'd make a really good instructor"

About the lesson

A typical lesson starts with a few questions, just to get to know where the student is.
"Have you surfed before?"
"How comfortable are you in the ocean?"
"What are you hoping to accomplish today?"
Then we paddle out. Depending on how the student answered the first question, I'll be giving tips and pointers for getting through the "breaks"
Once we get past the breaks, the real fun can begin! My goal is to get the student on their first wave, whether they're standing, or kneeling, even bellying it if they're not comfortable yet, a wave is a wave!
I've worked with young and old, new surfers and even experienced surfers looking to sharpen their skills
Gather as many options as you can. No 2 instructors are the same, we all have our own little methods and nuances.
The most recent event I remember was the 2019 Sun Diego AM SLAM Surf Series. Made it all the way to the semi finals, but unfortunately got eliminated in the final heats. Despite not placing, I enjoyed every minute of the event. The sportsmanship and friendliness from the other competitors was just wonderful. Everyone there was so welcoming and supportive to one another.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but it is best to ask question related to the lesson or surfing in general. Although if a student has some concerns about scheduling or their own personal abilities, a good instructor will be more than happy to listen and answer question the best they can

Details
My pricing is simple and straight forward, $30/hr with an hour minimum. If a lesson goes up to 30 minutes past the hour, I do not charge another hour. This just gives some wiggle room for paddling out and back in.
