About Andrew

Played College tennis for University of Hartford and currently play in the Palm Beach Open League

I love teaching and making someone a better player.

My father always belonged to a tennis club. I developed a relationship with the pro from taking lessons myself and he hired me when I was old enough. Sweeping the courts, ball boy, working in the pro shop. Eventually I progressed to the point where I was giving lessons

Lifetime of playing and teaching.

Student will stand at the baseline. Instructer at the net.Student will hit forehands and backhands. Instructor will observe and then give pointers as to improve ground strokes. All ages. Varying degrees of talent

You do not have to hit a winner every time. Bud Collins the old commentator used to say, are you a one shot player, are you a two shot player? Etc etc. In other words, how many times can you hit it back and get it in? Learn proper form and how to hit the ball back and keep it in. And make your opponent have to do the same. And many times he or she won't. The power will come with time. And learn to think a few shots ahead. You do not have to hit a perfect shot that wins the point. Because in trying that too much you will miss and lose the point. Learn to hit shots that put your opponent in a precarious position. Such as keeping it deep, or keeping it low with backspin. Those can be winning shots as much as a topspin winner can be, and they aren't as risky.

Not recent. But I played on one of the top teams in my county in high school. Affluent community and many of the players on the team had tennis courts in their backyard. I did not and was the last player on the team. When I got to college there were tryouts for the tennis team. And I showed up and the coach made me play a junior who was on the team. And I beat him. I handed the coach the result and he said 'WHAT??? Play again right now and I'm going to watch'. And we did. And it was like 3-2 after five games and the coach said he'd seen enough and I made the team as a freshman walk-on.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Will you be able to teach me how to hit properly? And then will you be able to teach me the strategy that I need in order to win!
