About Marowa

My instruction is structured, strategic, and results-driven. I specialize in building core academic skills in reading, writing, research, and critical thinking, while also preparing students for high-stakes exams such as the SAT. I teach students how to break down complex questions, think analytically, and apply effective test-taking strategies that improve both accuracy and performance under pressure. With formal training in special education, I am highly skilled in adapting instruction to meet individual learning profiles. I work effectively with students who need additional support, structure, or alternative approaches, as well as those who are ready for advanced academic challenge. My focus is always on measurable progress, skill development, and long-term academic independence. I work with students from elementary school through early college and am committed to helping each learner strengthen confidence, improve outcomes, and develop the tools needed to succeed across all academic settings.

I am an experienced educator with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and a Master’s degree in Special Education. I am also SPED-certified and have taught AP Seminar at the 11th-grade level for three years. In addition, I have worked as a private long-term tutor for many years, supporting students across a wide range of academic needs and grade levels.

Teaching approach and methods:

My approach is structured, student-centered, and highly adaptive. I focus on building deep understanding rather than memorization, using clear explanations, guided practice, and gradual release of responsibility. For test preparation (including SAT and other standardized exams), I emphasize strategy, critical thinking, and targeted skill development. For reading, writing, and literacy, I focus on comprehension, analytical thinking, and strong written expression. With my special education background, I am experienced in differentiating instruction to meet diverse learning profiles and support students who benefit from additional structure, scaffolding, or accommodations.
Typical lesson structure:
Each session begins with a brief check-in and review of prior material or assignments. We then focus on a targeted skill or concept, breaking it down into manageable steps with guided practice. I model strategies when needed, then support students as they work independently to build confidence and mastery. Lessons end with a recap and clear next steps or practice to reinforce learning between sessions.

What sets me apart as a tutor:

My combination of subject expertise, classroom teaching experience, and formal special education training allows me to support a wide range of learners effectively. I am skilled at adapting instruction for students who need additional support, as well as challenging advanced learners. I also bring extensive experience in AP-level coursework, academic writing, and long-term skill development, not just short-term test preparation.

Who I work with:

I tutor students across all grade levels, including elementary, middle school, high school, and early college. I specialize in AP coursework (especially AP courses), SAT and standardized test preparation, literacy development, reading comprehension, writing skills, and academic research. I also work with students who have learning differences and benefit from structured, individualized instruction.
