Hello! I’m Shay, an experienced academic and test prep tutor passionate about helping students reach their full potential. I specialize in preparing students for the SSAT, SAT, ACT, and other standardized tests, as well as strengthening core reading, writing, and math skills. My test prep approach is personalized, strategy-based, and results-driven. Every student learns differently, so I start by identifying strengths, weaknesses, and test-taking habits through an initial diagnostic assessment. From there, I design a customized plan focusing on:
Concept Mastery: Strengthening core reading, math, and verbal reasoning skills.
Test-Taking Strategy: Teaching timing, pacing, and elimination techniques to reduce errors.
Confidence Building: Using guided practice, feedback, and positive reinforcement to reduce test anxiety.
Real Practice: Incorporating official-style questions, timed drills, and full-length practice tests.
My lessons emphasize understanding why answers are correct, not just memorizing patterns—so students develop lasting critical-thinking skills that extend beyond the exam.
Lesson Plan Example
Session Length: 60 minutes (in-person or via Zoom)
Typical Structure:
Warm-Up (5–10 min): Quick review of previous material or timed mini-quiz.
