About Edith

I am currently in my third and final year of my undergraduate law degree at the University of Manchester and am keen to pursue a legal career in the future. I have a strong academic background and have always loved academia and the challenges and satisfactions of learning, and feel that I have the necessary passion and commitment to education to be able to inspire others to not just achieve highly in their subjects but to enjoy them too.

I completed my GCSE's in 2016 and obtained A*s in both English literature and language, and then went on to achieve an A* in my English literature A level in 2018 as well as A*'s in Economics and Geography. As a result, I possess an excellent academic aptitude for the subject and a thorough understanding of the exam technique required to achieve the highest grades at both levels of the subject.

Additionally, I have previous experience tutoring a GCSE student in a range of subjects including both English literature and language, and am also currently volunteering as a student mentor to a sixth form student as part of a pro bono project with my university. I am therefore confident in my abilities to communicate my knowledge on subject matters in a way that is clear, accessible and manageable to students, to ensure that they are able to grasp complex content and retain it in the long term.

My typical lesson length is usually around 45 minutes to an hour as I feel it is important that students are able to concentrate well and remain productive for the whole session. Whilst it is important that the sessions involve collaborative discussions of subject content, I also encourage students to respond to questions even if they are not sure of the answer in order to challenge their thinking and build confidence. I also feel that it is beneficial to give students work to attempt before sessions, even if it is only a question or two to think about, in order to provide a better structure for the session and identify any particular areas which students might like to go over in more detail.

Furthermore, I try to balance sessions between going over subject content and focusing on exam technique, for example by discussing how a certain topic might be assessed in an exam situation and looking at exemplar questions, answers and mark schemes in order to best prepare students for the demands of timed exams. I am also acutely aware that not all students learn in the same ways so I am always willing to tailor my teaching style to meet their specific needs.
