About Owen
I'm a 24 year old, final year vet student, at the Royal Veterinary College with an intercalated bachelors in comparative pathology. I come from Cardiff in South Wales and am a fluent Welsh speaker. I love to be outdoors and my hobbies include painting, triathlon and bouldering.
I'm Dyslexic and had a non-traditional route into Veterinary medicine. I believe my dyslexia is a strength of mine and have developed strategies to work with it over the years. I'm keen to share these strategies with others. On my journey to Vet school I won Pearson BTEC student of the year award in 2016. Since then, I have been involved in mentoring schemes such as the Medic Mentor summer school and presenting scholarship. I'm also experienced in mentoring for medical school applications and work-shopping personal statements.
I would describe my teaching style as enthusiastic, relaxed and supportive. I find, the best way to learn, is to apply a logical approach to the topic. Start with what you know and use that to inform what you don't know. Being a vet student, I'm an experienced problem solver and firmly believe in having a solid grounding in the basics. Then using these as a tool to expanding your knowledge base.
