About Julia
I have been teaching for over 25 years. In that time, I have tutored and worked with small groups. I have taught hundreds of students during that time ( I really never kept count).
My students, with my guidance, have been able to improve at least one level in standardized language arts state assessments. At least 7 of my fine art student have received local and regional awards at the Scholastic Reading and Writing Awards Program. I have seen 23 groups of students graduate through my schools. I am very hands on and meet regularly with individuals to go over current grades and standards and suggest areas for improvement.

I teach learners of all ages from K - Adult. My strongest area is reading/ writing and I have 20 years experience. I have a master's in reading instruction and am a certified reading specialist. I also have a degree in special education, concentrating on students with autism and ADHD. I have over 25 years experience in these areas.
My lesson are a combination of many modalities, including hands on projects, reading silently and aloud. modeling, guided practice, differentiated instruction based on a brief learning style survey. Art lessons are based on student choice and media selection catered to the skill level. During our one hour session, we will explore using a variety of methods to keep the lessons flowing. I will, however, remain flexible and let you as the student guide how much time is needed on different areas of study.
I am a flexible and creative teacher. I often envy teachers who are super structured in their methods, but I have my own style which has proven to be very successful. I check for understanding often during out interactive lessons, so that you will never feel lost. I show respect for my students and expect the same from them. Learning should be productive, but also fun and interesting. I make sure that my student is comfortable with one area of a subject before moving on to the next.
