About Elizabeth
I was a paid, part-time tutor of GCSE students at Hurstmere School, South-East London from January to April 2012. I helped one student improve their English Language GCSE grade from predicted E to a B.
Additionally, I was a mentor at Townley Grammar School, helping students with Key Stage 3 Maths.
Since then I have tutored students privately in the South-East London area and developed a small network of pupils.

Hello!
I'm Lizzy, a History Graduate (First-Class) from the University of Warwick, undertaking a Masters at London School of Economics in September.
If you are looking for an enthusiastic History and English Literature/Language tutor then you've found the right person! I provide face to face History and English Literature/Language tuition to secondary school pupils from GCSE to A-Level.
I have four years of experience of one-to-one personal tutoring, having tutored GCSE English students at Hurstmere School (South-East London) in 2013 and pupils privately since then.
BESPOKE TUTORING
I believe it is important to tailor my lesson structures and teaching methods to the student's needs and aims. Usually I will ask the student to provide some essays or written work from school so I am able to assess the student's ability and identify the ways I can help them. From this, I will create engaging activities that help the student develop their understanding of the subject and inspire them with confidence to effectively answer exam questions.
MY APPROACH
My aim as a tutor is to encourage my pupils to critically examine problems and think independently.
My students struggle with a variety of issues such as: structuring essay answers; engaging with historical sources; analysing texts, including selecting quotes; and dealing with exam questions. My approach is to start with areas they are comfortable with and then gradually tackle various issues the student has with tailored activities and past-paper questions.
I will work alongside the student to help them improve their technique and provide friendly valuable feedback and personal teaching resources.
I am a committed tutor and really enjoy helping my pupils gain confidence in their abilities. I am passionate about the value personal tuition can provide in supporting a student and enhancing their potential.
