About Diederik
Hello, I’m Diederik, an Imperial College London Mechanical Engineering graduate with a strong academic background and several years of experience helping students succeed in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry. Having achieved first-class marks every year of my university degree and a place on the Dean’s List, I bring both deep subject knowledge and a high standard of academic to my tutoring. My approach is calm, structured, and student-focused. I take the time to understand each student’s strengths, challenges, and learning style, and I tailor my explanations to make even the most complex topics feel manageable. Students often tell me they feel more confident after just a few sessions because I break down problems clearly and teach them how to think through questions step by step. Professionalism is central to how I teach. I come prepared to every lesson, set clear goals, and create a supportive, judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. My tutoring is grounded in years of studying and applying Maths, Physics and Chemistry at a high level, both in the IB programme, where I earned 7s in HL Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and throughout my engineering degree. Whether a student is aiming for top grades, building a stronger foundation, or trying to rediscover confidence in a subject they’ve found difficult, I’m committed to helping them achieve their goals with clarity, patience, and consistency.

As a tutor, I focus on building real understanding rather than memorisation. I break complex ideas into simple, intuitive steps and use clear examples to help students gain confidence in topics that often feel overwhelming at first. My lessons are interactive, and I encourage students to think out loud, ask questions, and explore the “why” behind each concept. I tailor each session to the student’s level, goals, and learning style. Whether someone needs help with exam technique, improving grades, catching up on difficult topics, or pushing for top marks, I adjust the pace and depth of the lesson accordingly. I also teach problem-solving strategies that students can apply across subjects, not just in a single chapter or exam. A typical lesson lasts 2 hours, although I’m flexible. I usually begin with a quick check-in, move into core teaching time, and finish with guided practice of real exam questions and a recap of key takeaways. I hold an MEng in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London, graduating with first-class marks every year and making the Dean’s List. I completed the IB Diploma with 7s in HL Maths, HL Physics, and HL Chemistry, and I now tutor all three subjects at GCSE, A-Level, and IB level. My engineering background gives me a practical and intuitive way of explaining scientific and mathematical concepts, which students often find reassuring and easy to follow. I also have undergone a DBS background check for working with children. My tutoring is ideal for: • GCSE, A-Level, and IB students • Students preparing for exams or looking to improve confidence in Maths, Physics, or Chemistry • High-achieving students aiming for top grades • Students who struggle with the pace of school lessons and need clearer explanations • Anyone looking for structured, supportive, and personalised STEM tutoring I teach learners from around age 13 upwards and welcome both long-term weekly students and short-term revision support.
