About Maab
I know math can feel frustrating when a concept just isn't clicking, and that a lot of the time it's not about "being bad at math," it's about not having had it explained in the right way yet, for you. That's what I focus on: finding the explanation, the example, or the approach that actually makes sense to you. I spent a full year teaching in an elementary classroom, so I've had a lot of practice figuring out different ways to explain the same idea until something clicks. I'm also currently working on a graduate degree in math and data science, so I still remember what it's like to be a student pushing through something hard, and I bring that same mindset into every lesson. My goal isn't just to help you get the right answer, it's to help you leave feeling like you actually get it, and maybe even start to enjoy it a little.

My approach centers on building genuine confidence with math, not just memorizing steps. I start by figuring out exactly where a student is strong and where they're struggling, using the same kind of data-driven approach I used as a classroom teacher tracking student progress throughout the year. A typical lesson includes reviewing recent schoolwork, targeted practice on the specific skill that's causing trouble, and time for the student to explain their own reasoning out loud, since teaching a concept back is one of the fastest ways to actually learn it. What sets me apart is real classroom experience: I've managed a full class of students, built intervention groups for those who needed extra support, and designed structured test prep programs for advanced students preparing for the SAT. I work with students from elementary through high school, including those who need to catch up and those who are ready to be pushed further. I'm currently pursuing a Master's in Data Science at NC State, so I bring both a teacher's patience and a strong, current grasp of math itself to every lesson.
