About Kathy
I’m an Architectural Association graduate, a school recognised worldwide as one of the most prestigious in architectural education. After graduating, I worked as an Architectural Assistant at Foster + Partners, one of the top global design firms, where I gained first-hand experience working on international, high-profile projects. I am now pursuing a Master’s in Construction Project Management at the Bartlett, UCL, one of the world’s leading institutions in the built environment. This combination of elite academic training and professional studio experience gives me a strong understanding of what admissions tutors and interviewers look for — not only in portfolios, but also in statements and interviews. As a bilingual tutor, fluent in English and Mandarin, I support students from diverse backgrounds in presenting their work with clarity, confidence, and originality.

My Approach to Tutoring I believe applying to architecture school can be both exciting and overwhelming, so I aim to make the process clear, supportive, and enjoyable. Every student has their own design voice, and my role is to help you express it with confidence. Techniques & Methodology: I combine visual critique, guided questioning, and step-by-step development. Together, we’ll refine your portfolio through project selection, layout, and storytelling, while also polishing your personal statement so it reflects your true motivations and ambitions. Mock interviews are run in a realistic but encouraging format, with constructive feedback on both what you say and how you present yourself. Lesson Structure & Length: Sessions usually last 60–90 minutes and include a review of your work, targeted exercises, and personalised feedback. After each lesson, I share follow-up notes so you know exactly what to work on before the next step. Qualifications & Experience: Architectural Association (AA) Graduate Former Architectural Assistant at Foster + Partners, contributing to major international projects Current Master’s student at UCL Experienced in mentoring peers and students on portfolios, applications, and interviews Fluent in English and Mandarin, making lessons accessible in both languages Who My Lessons Are For: High school students preparing their first architecture portfolios for undergraduate applications Students applying to undergraduate architecture programmes (UK, US, and international), needing guidance with portfolio development, personal statements, and mock interviews Graduates and young professionals looking to create strong job portfolios and practice for design interviews
