About Lucie
Bonjour! My name is Lucid and I’m a bilingual French tutor with a strong academic background and real teaching experience. I’ve lived in France my whole life, completed my schooling in the French system, and earned the French baccalauréat. Thanks to my British parents, I also grew up speaking English fluently, giving me a deep understanding of both languages and how to move confidently between them. I’ve previously: • Tutored English to a 12-year-old French student • Helped a 45-year-old learner improve her spoken French after moving to France • Supported a 15-year-old student with French literature and grammar for her brevet exam
I’m now based in Edinburgh and excited to continue teaching French in a supportive, motivating way. What I Offer:

My approach to tutoring is student-centred, adaptable, and focused on building both confidence and real-world fluency. As a native French speaker who has lived in France my entire life, I aim to teach French as it is truly used, while also providing a strong foundation in grammar, structure, and cultural context.
I believe that learning a language should feel engaging rather than intimidating. I tailor each lesson to the student’s goals—whether that’s exam success, improving conversational skills, or starting from scratch, and adjust my pace and methods accordingly. I place strong emphasis on clear explanations, repetition where needed, and practical application, so students can actively use what they learn rather than just memorise it.
My teaching combines:
Clear explanations of grammar and syntax, using examples and comparisons to make concepts intuitive
Conversational practice to build confidence, pronunciation, and fluency
Vocabulary building through real-life contexts (current events, culture, everyday situations)
Reading and discussion of texts for more advanced students, including literature, articles, and political or cultural topics
Exam-focused practice for students preparing for tests, with structured exercises and feedback
I encourage students to speak as much as possible, even at beginner level, while creating a relaxed environment where mistakes are part of the learning process.
Typical Lesson Length:
Lessons typically last 60-120 minutes, which I find allows enough time to cover new material, practise, and review without overwhelming the student. However, I am flexible and happy to adapt lesson length depending on the student’s needs and availability!
Qualifications & Experience:
I am a native French speaker and completed my education in France, including the French diploma. I have a strong academic background in French grammar, literature, and politics, and I am very comfortable explaining both formal and informal aspects of the language. My cultural knowledge allows me to give students a deeper understanding of how French is spoken and understood in real life. I have previously tutored two 16 year old students for their GCSE French exams, as well as a 70+ year old who wanted to improve her conversational skills in French.
My lessons are suitable for:
Beginners with no prior knowledge of French
Intermediate and advanced learners looking to improve fluency
Students preparing for exams or academic assessments
Learners who want conversational practice with a native speaker
Adults or teenagers looking to improve French for travel, work, or personal interest
I adapt my teaching style to the student’s level, age, and goals, ensuring each lesson is both effective and enjoyable.
