About Claudia

My mother is a native of Paris, France. Her and I spoke exclusively in French from the time I could speak until now. My entire mother's side of the family still lives in France and we visit 1-2 times a year. I took French throughout high school, and continued to do so in college. I worked as a French tutor in high school and I have also nannied for children who were learning French.

About the lesson

I think that the key to teaching a language is consistency and individualization. Everyone learns differently, and as a tutor/teacher, it is important to be aware of your students' strengths and weaknesses. While some students excel in grammar, others find listening comprehension and speaking to be easier.

Depending on the student, my lessons will vary from vocabulary (flash cards), verb conjugations, conversations on a variety of topics, and even assignments that include watching TV in French. As a student of Spanish language, I have found that watching TV shows in Spanish, with Spanish subtitles has greatly improved my listening comprehension.

Claudia was an exceptional French tutor for three years at Stanford. My goal was to live in french house by senior year--which requires advanced intermediate fluency--and Claudia's weekly sessions with me brought my conversation and grammar to a level that far surpassed the bar. In my first week in La Maison Francaise junior year, 4 native speakers assumed I was from France originally or had lived there for most of my childhood. None of this would've been possible without Claudia.
