About Joseph
I have 15 years' of experience teaching piano to young beginners, typically ages 6-8. Over the years, my number of students has waxed and waned, but my love for teaching the same material to the same age group hasn't diminished at all. During my time at UNH, I became a top level beginning piano instructor for beginners, and I have maintained a small studio of students since my graduation. While my degree may specialize me in Voice and my private teaching time is more heavily given to Math and Science, my experience and skills in teaching piano are by far my most impressive qualifications.

I do change my approach to meet each student's needs, but my fundamental approach is based on literacy. As frequently as possible, young beginners should be reading notation and learning new vocabulary. However, during a playing segment of a lesson, my focus is on technique. Beginners are often skilled at learning new material, but I have learned to resist the temptation to immediately pass of a song because all the notes are right. Ensuring proper technique will make playing easier in the long run and prevent the development of any bad habits that could become future detriments or even physical health issues.
