About Jamie

Hi, I'm Jamie! I've been teaching Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology to students of all abilities for 8 years and have over 2,000 hours of experience. I'm a full-time professional tutor, specialising in preparing students for Maths GCSE & IGCSE examinations. In addition to my focus on Maths, I have extensive experience tutoring GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, IB, Advanced Placement and Subject SATs for Chemistry, Physics & Biology. I've also acted as a mentor to students who have successfully applied to top independent schools and Russell Group universities, including Oxbridge. When I teach my focus is always on the individual’s needs and in this way I have helped numerous students make sense of subjects that were previously a mystery to them. Both parents and pupils have described me as ‘enthusiastic, ‘passionate’ and ‘inspiring’ – what I hope is a reflection of the energy and professionalism I try to bring to all of my sessions. I typically teach in person around Central and West London. However, if you aren't based in these areas I also offer online tuition and regularly teach UK and international students this way. I use digital technology, which allows the student to see everything I write and you can see from the feedback below how effective this setup is. In terms of my academic background, I hold a First Class MChem degree in Chemistry from Oxford University and am a Scholar at Balliol College. I've also published research on a number of topics in Inorganic Chemistry including flame retardancy and polymer catalysis. My passion for education extends beyond tutoring and I've recently built the website Save My Exams! to develop better revision resources for GCSE and A level students. I also love to play sport and spend time with friends. Whether it's playing rugby or going skiing, you can bet that I've tried it! Thank you for your consideration and please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. **************************************************************************************** Background: Qualifications, Achievements & Publications 2012-2013 Chartered Financial Analyst Institute ¥ Passed Level I examination. 2013 Author, Synthesis of Flame Retardant Polypropylene/LDH-Borate Nanocomposites ¥ Chemical research paper published in the journal Macromolecules (American Chemical Society). 2008-2012 Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, UK ¥ MChem in Chemistry: graduated with First Class Honours in both Bachelors and Masters degrees. ¥ Awarded the Andrew Pang Scholarship (2009) and Michael Freeman Bursary (2011) for academic achievements. 2003-2008 Mill Hill School, London, UK ¥ AEA (Advanced Extension Award): Chemistry (Distinction). ¥ 3 A-Levels: Chemistry (A), Mathematics (A) and Physics (A). ¥ 5 AS-Levels: Chemistry (A), History (A), Latin (A), Mathematics (A), Physics (A). ¥ 9 GCSEs, all at grade A*.
