About James

If your child lacks confidence in Maths, struggles to make certain topics “click”, or understands the work in class but finds it difficult to turn that understanding into exam marks, I can help.

I provide structured, one-to-one GCSE Maths tuition focused on understanding, confidence and exam performance.

I am a professional engineer with over six years of experience and a strong academic background in engineering. Mathematics is something I use regularly to solve real-world problems, and I bring that same logical, step-by-step approach into my teaching.

I specialise in KS3 and GCSE Maths, including Foundation and Higher Tier. My aim is not simply to help students memorise methods, but to understand why they work so that they can confidently apply them to unfamiliar questions.

Every student learns differently, so lessons are tailored to their current level, target grade and areas for improvement.

About the lesson

My lessons are structured, patient and tailored to the individual student. I focus on:

breaking difficult topics into simple steps;
developing genuine understanding rather than memorising methods;
practising GCSE exam questions and exam technique;
identifying weak areas and tracking progress;
building confidence so students can work independently.

The first lesson is used to assess the student's current level, goals and areas for improvement. From there, I create a personalised plan around their exam board and target grade.

After each lesson, I provide a short summary of what we covered and what to practise next.

Online lessons use a shared digital whiteboard, allowing me to work through problems live with the student, annotate questions and send them the lesson notes afterwards.
