About Lena
I am a German native speaker and experienced German tutor for all levels. I have a first class degree in Literature and History from the University of Vienna and an MA degree in Acting from the University of Essex. I am currently teaching individual students aged 5 - 75, as well as classes at German Saturday School Ealing and German courses for companies and colleges. I am experienced in preparing students for GCSE exams, Goethe exams as well as German Abitur. All my students have received excellent results in their exams (9/A*).
I have also worked with a number of children growing up with a German speaking parent in the UK supporting them with reading, writing, formal education and exam preparation in German.
I have 4 years of experience working for a tutoring agency in Vienna. I have taught German courses for adults at the European Parliament and volunteered as a German teacher at Ferry Dusika refugee shelter in Vienna. I also work with theatre in education companies.
I won the Association of German Saturday Schools UK and Goethe Institute's Teaching Award 2025.
I have an enhanced DBS certificate and have safeguarding training for working with children.

Whether you are completely new to German, you are looking for a tutor to support with GCSE prep, improve your conversational German for travelling or are looking for a coach to work on your Business German, I'll tailor the lessons to your needs and goals.
If you would like to work towards exam with me, we will work both with official course books and my own material to ensure you are best prepared. I am experienced in preparing students for their GCSEs and Goethe Exams - all of them with excellent results. If you are learning German for fun, to use it on your travels or because you are interested in the culture, we'll cover a mix of cultural topics and grammar.
I usually bring in original texts, articles, music, videos etc. appropriate to your level. For younger learners, I like to prepare fun and playful lessons tailored to the student's interests. I always love to bring some drama games and creative activities to my lessons for children.
My lessons are typically 1hr long and I teach online or in person in London. For younger children 45 or 30 minutes might be more suitable - I am always happy to adapt our lessons to make sure you or your child gets the most out of them.

I offer a free initial 30 minutes call so we can get to know each other and I can learn about your goals and can best prepare a lesson plan for you. Then you can decide, if you would like to work with me. Cancellation policy: If you cancel up until 24 hrs before our lesson, I charge nothing. Within 24 hrs, I have to charge the full price. I also usually expect payment on the day of the lesson. You are also welcome to book a package of 5 or 10 lessons in advance.
