About Cristobal
Cristo Harijan is an extremely advanced classically trained pianist that currently studies with Murray McLachlan at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Cristo was born in upstate New York where he began learning the piano at the age of 9, immediately taking to the instrument and playing advanced repertoire by Mozart and Bach more or less straight away. After moving to the UK in 2012 Cristo studied piano for a year at The Sage centre of advanced training (CAT) in Gateshead, before he was recommended to audition for Chetham's School of Music in 2014 and received a full scholarship. Cristo studied there for 4 years, playing in numerous concerts and placing highly in competitions under the tuition of LuLu Yang. During this time, his talent was discovered by Murray McLachlan, head of keyboard at Chetham's, who began tutoring Cristo in his final year at the school. Murray was greatly impressed by Cristo’s musical understanding and pianistic technique, insisting that he audition for RNCM so that his studies with him could continue. Though Cristo is first and foremost a classical pianist, his ability on the piano ranges beyond the works of his favourite composers. He enjoys improvising often, and would be open to teaching any kind of repertoire desired by a student, from Baroque all the way to Pop music. Cristo also has an advanced understanding of musical theory, and is willing to offer tuition in these areas as well as piano.
