About Artavia
I began learning ASL during my 8th grade middle school year. After entering high school, I felt I had a good grasp of the beginner concepts of ASL, so instead of just taking Spanish as a Language course, I studied ASL as well.
I fell in love with not only the language but Deaf culture, which then lead me to continue my studies into college.
I graduated class of 2019 and I encourage others to learn the beautiful language to bring equal access to language for all.

I work with a range of students from Pre-K to middle school. Each lesson brings a structured approach that considers the varying developmental stages of the learners. Here’s a general outline for my first ASL lesson plan, tailored to these age groups:
Pre-K to Kindergarten (Ages 4-6)
Lesson 1: Introduction to Basic Signs
Objective: Students will learn basic ASL signs such as greetings (hello, goodbye), family members (mom, dad, brother, sister), and basic needs (eat, drink, bathroom).
Activities:
- Sign-Along Song: Use a simple song and incorporate basic signs.
- Flashcards: Show flashcards with images and teach the corresponding sign.
- Story Time: Read a short story while signing key words.
