About Amy

I am a recent graduate and am currently taking a break from formal academic study before moving on to complete my teaching qualification and start working full-time as an English teacher in secondary schools. I first realised I wanted to be an English teacher when I was in secondary school. I moved schools mid-term during Year 10 and felt completely inspired by my new teachers - and fellow students. I had moved from a not-so-great school (to put it mildly) to an Ofsted Outstanding school and felt the difference immediately. The teachers were incredible and fostered an amazing environment for us students, convincing us every day that we could achieve anything we set our minds to. Their dedication and drive to support us throughout our time at secondary school made all the difference and inspired me to want to return the favour. The world needs more teachers who truly believe in their students and who are willing to go the extra mile to support them - and I hope I can be one of those teachers for my future students.

I truly believe that we learn most effectively when we are able to connect with what we’re studying. As your tutor, I want to help you find the joy in reading and studying literature. Studying English is very much like studying Art: of course, there are key techniques and principles, but it is also very much about your own personal interpretation. There isn’t always one truth or a single “right” answer, and becoming an excellent student of literature means being able to connect with and reflect on ideas within the texts you’re studying. It’s about being able to create strong arguments - like a debate - about what you think is happening. Your ideas matter most. My classes will be between 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on what we're studying. And will help guide you through texts whilst giving you the space and creative freedom to come up with your own ideas. We can also work on essay writing skills, as well as exam and revision techniques to make sure you feel confident in any English class or exam that's coming your way! Tutoring GCSE and A-Level English Literature. Can also help with English Language skills if needed! SPaG is super important for getting those top marks. I have just graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London with a First Class (Hons) degree in English and have experience in both tutoring and teaching, having recently been working in a secondary school in Ireland.
