About Eduardo

Eduardo Ruiz has been playing the guitar for 20 years and he participated in many music festivals in Peru where he performed classical music and world music. He graduated with Honours from the Peruvian National University of Music in 2015, he won the 3rd Prize at the Peruvian Guitar Competition in 2017 and he recently won the “Lunch Hour Award” in recognition of outstanding excellence in Recitals Australia Lunch Hour Series Spring in 2021. He also has been fortunate to have had masterclasses with prominent national and international classical guitarists including Judicaël Perroy, Eduardo Fernandez, Jorge Caballero, Kazuhito Yamashita, Andrew Blanch and Slava Grigoryan. While there are many very fine guitar teachers, it is not common for most to have the training and accreditation that I bring with my undergraduate degree, Suzuki-accredited training (Books 1, 2, 3) and ten years' teaching experience in a variety of settings and schools in my native Peru, as well as Melbourne. To the best of my knowledge, I am currently the only accredited Suzuki-trained guitar teacher in South Australia. I am able to work with a wide range of styles, abilities and ages, and can adapt to many curricula, selecting the most appropriate for the given student, be that AMEB Rock School, AMEB Classical Guitar, the Suzuki method, or any one of a number of others. A particular goal I have for the next few years in Adelaide is to create a Suzuki-inspired program for children starting guitar from ages as young as four or five. Well-paced, structured, and holistic instruction from that age can achieve extraordinary results over the course of a few years and can produce students who are confident, solidly capable players and readers by the time they’re nearing the end of junior school - a time when otherwise many children are just taking their first steps with guitar. He is currently doing a master's in Music Performance and Pedagogy under the direction of Oliver Fartach-Naini at the Elder Conservatorium of Music.
