About Allison

My name is Allison and I'm a recent graduate from the University of California with a degree in Cognitive Science and background in tutoring students of all ages in Math. I'm a highly detailed individual who is committed to working with all students to work towards their learning goals.

My motivation to tutor stems from my belief that math is not inherently difficult, but rather it often suffers from inadequate explanations or a belief that only some select "smart people are good at math." I've had the privilege of working with students who thought algebra was hard, only to realize that it simply hadn't been explained in a way that made sense to them. It's not their fault, and it's not an inherent difficulty with math itself.

Having been a student myself, I understand the frustration of not understanding a concept, only to have it explained by a friend in a way that suddenly makes it crystal clear. That's precisely the experience I aim to provide for my students. Math, at its core, is not inherently difficult, and no one is inherently bad at it. The challenge lies in the culture of mathematics. I aim to change this and foster a positive learning environment where students can build confidence in their mathematical abilities.

My lessons are designed for students of all ages who are seeking to improve their understanding of math. Whether it's elementary, middle school, high school, or even college-level math, I adapt my teaching to suit the specific needs of the individual. My goal is to instill a passion for math and learning in all my students, regardless of their current proficiency or comfort level with the subject. I incorporate a variety of teaching techniques, such as interactive discussions, real-life examples, and hands-on activities, to make abstract mathematical concepts more relatable and engaging. By fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, my goal is to build students' confidence and their interest towards learning.

- Introduction and Goal Setting: I Begin the lesson with a brief review of the previous session, set clear learning objectives, and discuss the goals for the current session.
- Interactive Learning: Engage students through interactive discussions, posing questions, and encouraging them to share their thoughts. Use real-world examples to illustrate abstract concepts and make connections to their daily lives.
- Hands-On Activities: Incorporate hands-on activities or problem-solving exercises to reinforce understanding and make learning more tangible.
- Practice and Feedback: Provide opportunities for students to practice what they've learned, offering constructive feedback and guidance.
- Foster a collaborative environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and seeking clarification.
