About Raka
I’m an English Literature postgraduate with academic experience in both India and the UK, including a Master’s degree from the University of Manchester. Having studied and worked within different academic environments, I understand both the challenges students face and the skills they need to become confident, independent learners.
Alongside English Literature and Spoken English, I particularly enjoy helping students strengthen their academic writing, critical thinking, communication and presentation skills. I also work with students preparing for universities abroad, supporting them with personal statements and SOPs, university interviews, academic writing, essay structure, critical reading and adapting to the expectations of international higher education.
My approach is patient, interactive and highly individualized. I want students to understand ideas rather than memorize them, develop their own voice, and feel confident expressing themselves both academically and professionally. My aim is to make English and academic communication feel accessible, engaging and genuinely useful beyond the classroom.

I believe English is best learned through discussion, close reading, clear explanation and consistent practice rather than rote learning. My classes are designed to be interactive, supportive and academically rigorous, with individual attention even within small batches.
I teach English Literature, Spoken English and Academic Writing to students at different levels, both online and offline in Kolkata. Depending on the course, classes may include textual analysis, essay structure, critical thinking, vocabulary building, grammar, pronunciation, presentation skills and confidence in everyday and academic communication.
Having studied English Literature in Kolkata and later completed my postgraduate studies at the University of Manchester, I bring both Indian and international academic experience into my teaching. I particularly enjoy helping students become more confident writers, readers and speakers rather than simply preparing them to memorize answers.
Small batches allow students to participate actively, ask questions freely and receive personalized feedback on their writing and progress. Classes can also be adapted according to a student’s syllabus, university requirements or individual learning goals.
