• Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  Since I was little, I was fascinated about other languages. Living in Brazil, I had a big curiosity learning Spanish since so many countries around Brazil spoke it, and it sounded so beautiful. I made many Latin American friends since then, lived in Spain, and felt in love with the language!

• Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  Salvador Dali is one of my favorite historical figures that encompasses so much of Spanish culture. He is bold, outspoken, brilliant, passionate. Spanish language felts like that to me when I'm speaking it!

• Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

  When I lived in Spain, I loved the saying "No pasa nada", felt like a "no problem, hakuna matata" way of life. Their laidback way of living and siestas are also phenomenal.

• Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Spanish is a language spoken in more than 20 countries worldwide, it's an extremely important and beautiful language to learn. Not only to connect with friends I made in my life, but connect with so many beautiful cultures.

• What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  For English speakers, getting used to genders can be quite challenging. Repetition, language exposure, and immersion should help over time, as well as some pronunciations! All the brain needs is a bit of time to learn, the fluency follows.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  Portuguese is my native language, and sometimes, Spanish and Portuguese can be quite similar. I was traveling many years ago, eating in a restaurant with friends and paying for the check, when one of them said: "Y la propina?". In Portuguese, "propina" means blackmail, so I was very confused. My friends explained that in Spanish, "propina" meant "tip". I never forgot after that!

• How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  There are so many countries that speak Spanish, and each has a unique way of communicating, specific expressions and accents, it's fascinating. With Spanish, you are constantly learning the language. Traveling to different countries and immersing myself in the culture helps me gain more knowledge and confidence!

• What makes you a Superprof in language?

  Language learning is a life-long passion for me - it expands your mind, your view of the world, it connects you to different cultures and people. I am passionate about helping people feel confident in achieving their dreams to speak another language!
