About Jordyn
I grew up as the oldest sister of four, playing the cello, singing, and competing in soccer, and I played varsity soccer during my four years at Vassar College. In my free time, I enjoy going on long walks and runs with my dog, Bennett, reading, doing yoga, and spending time outside!
After earning Bachelor's degrees from Vassar College in Neuroscience and Behavior and French and Francophone studies, I served as a tutoring fellow at SAGA Innovations, teaching algebra and geometry to high school students for one year and then as Director of Academics for 3.5 years at a sport-for-development nonprofit organization based in the Bronx called CitySquash. CitySquash focuses on enabling New York City youth to fulfill their athletic, academic, and personal potential through academic support, rigorous squash training, and social-emotional and project-based learning. Now, I am a graduate student at the Silberman School of Social Work, where I am studying Community Organizing and group healing as a way to combat and change harmful societal systems. Despite my focus on reading and writing in my current schooling, I bring extensive tutoring pedagogy and knowledge in math and science subjects from my post-graduate career. I am passionate about math tutoring and providing note-taking, test-taking, studying, and life tips that my students will be able to utilize for the rest of their academic careers.

I believe first and foremost in empowering young people to understand their emotions, relationships, passions, and the world around them. I bring extensive experience creating curricula on social-emotional learning and racial and gender justice in addition to the main academic subjects, and I have held tutoring and teaching positions throughout high school, college, and my post-graduate career.
I also believe that most schooling and teaching systems cater to a certain type of learner, and I am here to show all students that their learning style is valuable, and that they can accomplish what they need to. My style centers the student's learning and action: I am not here to tell students what to do or to do the work for them, but rather to guide them and support them as they accomplish hard work. I am firm but warm and encouraging, and I approach my students with helpful and thought-provoking guiding questions. I am all about growth mindset, vulnerability, and determination, and tutoring is an amazing way for me to build those traits both within myself and others.
