About Joshua
I am a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) in Keyboard Performance. Prior to studying at the RCS I graduated with a Diploma in Piano Performance at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore. I have recently graduated with a Masters of Arts in Music (Sound Production/Songwriting) at The University of the West of Scotland.
I have been playing the piano for about 25 years and have 8 years of teaching experience in Singapore and Glasgow. I taught students of ages from 4 to 60 and some with mild autism/in a spectrum.
I was part of The Glasgow Piano Teachers, taught in music schools and have my own private teaching at both my students' and my place. Now that I have just moved to London, I am eager to cater my years of experience to students in London.
Throughout the years of teaching, I cater lessons that suit every individual - whether fast/slow learners, intensive/leisure learning or anything they have requested (goals etc).
In my free time, I write music/lyrics and also make covers of songs which I post on my YouTube channel ‘PianoLerv’: (concealed information)

I start off with the most basic theory - rhythm and then followed by note reading etc. I use my own method of teaching music theory which is really effective and easy for students to learn. I will also use the ABRSM Theory books with the exam papers to enhance their music theory knowledge and memory which could apply to playing an instrument. My students benefited greatly from my music theory lessons by the use of my own effective method of teaching music theory.
I arrange/orchestrate music, composing/writing music/lyrics and improvising as well. I had experience in writing songs and composing music for television and film. I was placed a very close second place in the Channel 4 Composition Scheme and was rewarded with a mentorship with a composer at The Nerve. With this, you need some music theory knowledge to write/compose/arrange/orchestrate music.
I have good communication skills and interaction with students having their first piano lesson or throughout all lessons due to my experience in teaching and own personality - approachable and friendly. I believe that having a good connection with students will affect their learning and interest in music theory which could benefit from their respective instrument playing or writing music.
The lesson will either be 30min or an hour long depending on the age of the student.

Details
I do not usually give free trial lessons but I will give the trial lessons at a discounted rate at £27 an hour as based on my teaching experience and musical skills.
