About Rebecca
As a recent graduate of the Columbia Publishing Course at Oxford, I am a collaborative, communication-focused tutor who prioritizes the individual needs of my students. Throughout my three years of working as a student tutor with the University of Arizona, I have tuned my instructional skills for students at all comprehension levels. I have BAs in Psychology and Creative Writing with a minor in Professional and Technical Writing, and have a plethora of experience in tutoring subjects such as English, writing, language, reading, literature, creative composition, and psychology. I specialize in tutoring IB and AP courses. I am also CRLA certified. I would consider my tutoring style to be encouraging and improvement-focused. I motivate my students to learn and find answers utilizing their own strengths. I aim to support them as a resource and content expert. I love to help students because I believe that education is a wonderful resource that everyone deserves access to. I find a great deal of reward in seeing knowledge "click" for my students. In my free time, I enjoy writing poetry, reading books, and playing backgammon.

As an experienced tutor, I cater my lesson plans, methods, and techniques to the student. When meeting a new client, I take the time to get to know them and understand what their tutoring needs and goals are. I'm always interested in the learning styles of my students, what their background experience with the subject is, and how I can best serve them as a tutor.
For me, typical lesson plan begins with a short catch-up and an introduction of our plans for the day. From here, we will begin the first step in our daily assignment. This might look like completing a reading together, spending some time on a writing prompt, or reviewing educational content. My lesson plans are designed with a sense of flow and promote the longevity of attention and energy in my students. The next step will likely involve the direct implementation of our knowledge via practice. We might answer some questions about the text, begin to outline an essay, or test ourselves on the content we've just learned. The majority of the session will generally prioritize the student's understanding via a hands-on activity. The session will end with a quick briefing. I ask my students how they feel about the content we've just learned, and what they've taken away from today's session. We'll take a moment to plan the general course of our next session and get our next meeting time on the books.
I prioritize empathy, communication, hands-on learning, and the specific needs of my students in my tutoring. My lessons are for students from Grade 6, all the way to the post-graduate level. I teach English, psychology, and writing of all kinds. My specialties are in AP and IB English and AP and GRE psychology. As a graduate of creative writing, I am always excited to work with a new student on their creative endeavors.
