About Yotham
I’m a composer and piano teacher with four years of teaching experience, and I hold a BMus and MMus in Composition and an MA in Opera Making from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Alongside teaching, I work professionally as a composer, with a particular interest in opera and collaborative music-making.
I enjoy teaching because every student approaches music differently. Some are naturally drawn to playing by ear, others to reading, theory, improvisation or simply finding pieces they genuinely love. I try to understand what motivates each student and build lessons around that, while giving them a strong and well-rounded musical foundation.
I’m equally happy teaching children, adult beginners and returning players, and aim to create lessons that are thoughtful, relaxed and genuinely enjoyable.

My teaching approach is flexible and shaped around each student’s needs, interests and goals. I combine work on repertoire and technique with theory, aural skills, music appreciation, improvisation and composition where useful, so that students develop a broader understanding of the music they are playing rather than simply learning notes.
Lessons are usually 45 or 60 minutes and can include anything from practice coaching and working through pieces to ear training, theory games and creative exercises, depending on what will benefit the student most.
I hold a BMus and MMus in Composition and an MA in Opera Making from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and have around four years’ experience teaching piano. I teach children, teenagers and adults, from complete beginners to intermediate players, and am equally happy to work towards graded exams or simply learn for enjoyment.
