About Isla
I am a guitar tutor with 8 years of experience and a B.Mus in Guitar Performance along with an M.Mus in Contemporary Music Studies. I specialize in helping students develop technical proficiency, musical expression, and performance readiness. I have worked with learners of all levels, from beginners gaining foundational skills to advanced students preparing for performance or creative composition. My lessons combine structured exercises, improvisation, repertoire, and performance coaching to nurture confident, expressive musicians. I aim to create lessons that inspire creativity, encourage independence, and build musical mastery. Lessons are designed to meet the student’s level and goals. Beginners practice chord transitions, strumming, and simple melodies. Intermediate learners refine scales, fingerstyle, improvisation, and phrasing. Advanced learners focus on performance, soloing, composition, and stylistic interpretation. Feedback is constructive and continuous, promoting skill development, creativity, and confidence. Lessons integrate technical mastery with expressive exploration, helping learners achieve well-rounded musicianship. Outside teaching, I remain active in performance, composition, and contemporary music research. I guide students through gigs, recitals, and creative projects. Teaching guitar allows me to witness learners grow in skill, expression, and confidence. My goal is to help students develop technical ability, musical artistry, and the joy of making music independently and confidently.

Learning guitar is most effective when technical skill and musicality grow together. My lessons focus on chord progressions, scales, fingerstyle, soloing, rhythm, music theory, improvisation, and performance readiness. Beginners build foundational techniques, chord transitions, strumming patterns, and simple melodies. Intermediate learners develop scale fluency, finger dexterity, phrasing, and improvisation skills. Advanced learners focus on composition, advanced soloing, tone shaping, stylistic versatility, and performance confidence. Lessons incorporate exercises, play-along practice, and performance feedback to cultivate both technical proficiency and artistic expression. I emphasize curiosity, creativity, and consistent practice, allowing students to explore musical ideas while developing confidence. Each session balances structured exercises with expressive freedom, enabling learners to enjoy the process while progressing steadily.
Lesson planning adapts to skill level and learning goals. Beginners focus on basic chords, rhythm patterns, and simple melodies. Intermediate learners enhance technique, music theory understanding, and improvisation. Advanced learners refine soloing, tone, style, and performance preparation. Each lesson combines technical exercises, repertoire work, and creative exploration. Feedback is iterative, supportive, and constructive. Lessons foster musical independence, expressive growth, and confidence. I encourage students to explore their musical voice while gaining mastery over the instrument. The learning environment is motivating, engaging, and growth-oriented, supporting steady improvement and artistic development.
Through continued practice, students develop finger dexterity, musical memory, creativity, and performance confidence. Lessons help learners understand music theory application, harmonic context, and stylistic nuances. Students gain confidence to perform solo, in ensembles, or in informal settings. Technical skill, interpretive ability, and expressive range are gradually integrated into daily practice. Lessons cultivate self-discipline, patience, and artistic curiosity, allowing learners to achieve both personal and professional musical goals. My objective is to create guitarists who combine skill, creativity, and expressive freedom, enjoying music as a lifelong journey.
