About Kevin
I came to higher education later in life, which gives me a unique perspective as a tutor. At school I wasn’t especially engaged, and only later did I realise what I had missed. With the right support, I believe every student can unlock their potential, and I aim to inspire those who may feel the same way I once did. Alongside my teaching, I am studying for a master’s in Creative Writing, I have a short film currently in production and a novel in progress. This allows me to share first-hand creative experience with students and to show how English can open doors both academically and personally. My approach is supportive, patient, and tailored to each learner’s needs. I focus on building confidence as well as skills, encouraging students to enjoy the subject while making real progress in their studies.

I have a deep passion for English, both reading and writing, and I aim to inspire students through this love of language. I believe that the power of story and expression is universal, and my goal is to help each student discover it for themselves. My teaching approach is student-centred and adaptive. I begin by identifying individual strengths, needs, and goals, then tailor lessons to build skills in a structured but engaging way. I use a mix of close reading, discussion, modelling, and guided practice to strengthen analytical thinking and writing. For younger students, I often incorporate creative exercises to build confidence, while exam-focused learners benefit from targeted feedback and exam technique practice. Lessons typically last one hour, though I am flexible depending on the student’s needs and concentration levels.

Kevin is an incredible tutor. He worked with both my children for their GCSE's and university personal statements.
