About Shelby
Hi! My name is Shelby, and I’m a 16-year-old high school pianist looking to share my love of music with beginner students. I have been playing for 11 years and was a student in the prestigious Baltimore School for the Arts TWIGS program.
I focus on making learning fun while building a solid foundation in technique and theory. I love teaching kids and teach students ages 5-12. I look forward to working with you and your kids!

My goal is to provide high-quality, encouraging, and affordable mentorship to the next generation of pianists. As someone who is still a student I understand how sometimes things can become a chore rather than a hobby. I am also able to relate more to my students because of my age.
I offer lessons to beginner students ages 5-12 and am willing to give sibling deals, as someone who has 4 siblings, I know how nice those are.
I believe music should be fun, which is why I use a 'Four-Pillar' approach in lessons. I do five minutes of warm-up exercises to build hand strength, proper posture, and finger independence. Then I do 10 minutes of theory and reading. After that I do core repertoire for 20 minutes, working through a beginner method book to learn new songs and apply what we've learned. To end the lesson I do a creative capstone for 5 minutes: A "cool-down" session involving a musical game or simple improvisation on the black keys.
