About Thomas
Hi, I'm Thomas! I am a 13+ Common Entrance and Scholarship tutor with over 8 years' experience and an unbroken track record at Common Entrance level, as well as successful scholarship entrants. I have helped students win places at Eton, Harrow, Radley and Winchester and Marlborough. I specialise in the humanities. English, History, R.S and Geography and the General papers. Every year I work with a select number of students either face-to-face, by Skype or in a combination of the two. I am also available for residential work and regularly travel internationally to help students. I often establish long working relationships with students, often advising on choice of University and helping them to prepare for UCAS further down the line. Initially, I look to very rapidly ascertain the blocks to a student's progress, and to explain them to them so that we both understand the task in hand. We then work together to fix them, always returning to the learning objectives that I have outlined at the start. In my experience, the most important thing is that a student knows where they are, and the distance they have to go to achieve their goals. I then work to instil the confidence that they can reach those goals, and teach them the techniques required to do so. Factor in a deep understanding of exam technique, and the result is a virtuous circle, in which the student rapidly improves, enjoys doing so, and therefore improves yet further, with confidence and happiness. Thomas was fantastic. Could not have been more dedicated and instrumental in allowing our son to get in to Eton after taking the King's Scholarship Exam. Thomas not only analysed the areas requiring more focus but also compiled a unique curriculum. Even more importantly he was a wonderful mentor encouraging a desire to learn by oneself. Thomas tutored my son for 9 months ahead of him taking the 11+ exams,
working on English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
Thomas taught him a huge amount in each of these subjects but most
importantly he taught him how to believe in himself and how best to nurture
and display his talents. It was a tremendous challenge but with much
thought, empathy and personal attention Thomas managed it.
