About Jacquelyn

Hello, I’m Jacquelyn. I’ve been tutoring, teaching, and supporting students for over a decade. I have worked with learners ages 7 through 18, with the bulk of my classroom experience focused on grades 5–8 here in the United States, and additional instructional experience with grades 9 and 10 in Italy. My background includes literacy tutoring, English language instruction, leadership facilitation, residential youth work, and middle-school academic coaching. I’ve also worked with students on social/emotional learning (SEL), and study skills. I’ve worked extensively with students with ADHD and ASD, including being a private teacher/tutor for students with ASD during the pandemic when schools were closed. One of my strongest areas as a tutor is middle-school argumentative writing. I specialize in helping students build powerful outlines, craft debatable and defensible claims, select strong and relevant supporting evidence, and turn their ideas into clear, structured essays. I’ve also supported students in writing application essays for opportunities such as specialized school programs, internships, and even early stages of college admissions. I have personally written many essays for my two master’s degrees, including a 75-page thesis paper. I enjoy using that experience to support high school and college students develop more advanced academic writing. During my time teaching in California, all of my 8th-grade students showed measurable improvement in attendance, GPA, and SBAC test scores. I carried that same individualized, progress-driven approach into my later instructional work in New York and Colorado, as well as into my ESL teaching online. My global classroom exposure — including teaching, internships, and residential academic work in Italy and throughout the United States — has given me a broad understanding of diverse teaching methods and learning philosophies. Because of this, I never rely on a single “one-size-fits-all” approach. I adjust constantly, pull from multiple pedagogical frameworks, and design lessons in ways that resonate with each individual student. My teaching style is dynamic, warm, and highly interactive. I keep students active throughout the lesson and use continuous check-ins to ensure concepts feel manageable rather than overwhelming. I work intentionally on self-efficacy and self-perception, especially during a time when it can feel easier for students to turn to AI instead of strengthening their own academic voice. I want students to feel empowered, capable, and confident in their skills. All of our work together is trackable, with clear goals, measurable progress, and consistent feedback so students (and parents) can see growth over time. Outside the classroom, I enjoy weightlifting, baking, watching great films, serving my community as an EMS first responder, and caring for injured animals. Most importantly, I love helping students discover that learning — especially writing — can feel meaningful, doable, and personally relevant. My goal is always to meet students where they are and help them develop both skill and confidence in a supportive, structured way.
