About Ethan
In high school I won the Advanced Certamen national championship (a quiz-bowl style Latin competition), and was accepted to Brown University and the University of Chicago. I'm currently a senior at Bard College, applying to graduate programs for classical studies and hoping to enter secondary education. I have years of experience working with middle and high schoolers in a tutoring capacity, as well as with kids ages 4-15 as a boating instructor and camp counselor. Outside of school, I enjoy running, hiking, basketball, and playing guitar in a band.

I'm qualified to teach Latin and Greek at anywhere from a beginner to 300 college level, and am able to help high school students with test prep, essay writing, or other facets of the college admissions process.
I believe it's crucial to instill students with self-motivation by breaking down what may seem like a daunting task (writing a college essay, learning an ancient language, etc.) into manageable and achievable chunks.
After getting a sense of a student's goals and preferred learning style, I design a personalized progress plan with the student that involves at least some means of daily practice- even as little as 5-10 minutes a day makes a huge difference when applied consistently! We then meet at appropriate intervals where I review independent work, go through exercises and assessments, and answer any questions.
