About Solomon

I am a professional teacher, and I have been a teacher all my professional life. I love what I do, and I am passionate about it. I derive joy from my students’ success. I recognize individual differences in learning and adopt approaches that work for particular students or class. My former students are scattered all over the world, excelling in science and technology-based professions like Medicine, Engineering, Computer Science etc. My work experience also enables me to give some general educational counseling.

I make the lesson objectives very explicit reflecting lower and higher order cognitive skills as may be appropriate for the content. I commence my lessons by finding out students’ previous knowledge of the topic and leveraging on this, I launch the students into the day’s topic, drawing on their day-to-day experience, and bringing in Indigenous perspectives. I make my lessons engaging with activities for students and encourage their participation. I end with a recap of main points and entertain students’ questions, and possibly assignment. My experience as a university professor of science education with research interest on the use of technologies for science teaching deepens my understanding of learning technologies and their applications. This is complemented by the knowledge and skills I acquired from the Master of Education degree in Educational Technology and Learning Design obtained from Simon Fraser University. I deploy numerous teaching methods and techniques as deemed appropriate for learning content. I use my lessons to establish links between scientific theories and empirical observations, leading to valid conclusions and possible predictions.
I have taught K-12 science for over twelve years. At the university level, I have been involved in training science teachers for over thirteen years. As a science educator, I have been involved in programs that promote science at the K-12 level in Canada, and across the globe.
