About Tam
Hello! My name is Tam, and I’m an undergraduate student at York University, specializing in English, literature, and film/media studies. Over the past few years, I’ve built strong expertise in grammar, academic writing, and analysis, and I’ve supported many classmates with essays, assignments, and presentations. As your tutor, my goal is simple: to help you feel confident, supported, and capable in your learning. I believe every student has the ability to succeed —you just need the right guidance, encouragement, and tools. My lessons are structured but flexible, tailored to your pace and goals, whether that means preparing for exams, improving essay structure, or practicing conversational English. I bring patience, creativity, and professionalism to every session. You can expect clear explanations, constructive feedback, and a safe space where mistakes are part of learning. With me, you won’t just memorize rules—you’ll understand how to use English effectively and express yourself with clarity and confidence. Let’s get started on your learning journey together!

My teaching is student-centered. Every lesson adapts to your pace, level, and goals. I combine step-by-step explanations with interactive practice so that you don’t just memorize rules but actually apply them with confidence. I use a mix of examples, real-world texts, and creative exercises (sometimes drawing from stories, media, or film) to make lessons both practical and engaging.
I believe learning works best when it feels relevant, so I always connect lessons to your personal interests, academic needs, or real-life goals.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Warm-up → a short discussion, prompt, or exercise to set focus
Core Lesson → targeted grammar point, writing skill, or text/film analysis
Practice Activity → guided examples, essay planning, or conversation practice
Feedback & Reflection → I give clear notes on strengths and areas to improve
Takeaway Task → a simple exercise or strategy to apply before the next session
Each lesson is structured but flexible — we’ll always adjust based on your needs that day (assignment due, exam prep, or general improvement).
What Sets Me Apart
Creative approach → I use examples from stories, media, and film to make abstract concepts relatable.
Balance of academic + practical → I support both high school/university essays and conversational English.
Patient and approachable → I create a safe space for mistakes, because mistakes = growth.
Consistency → I offer regular availability on evenings and weekends, so you always know when I’m available.
