Perfect! What an experience!

As someone who is largely new to being taught music and have scarcely any exposure to music theory, but have had a burning love for classical music all my life, I was frankly awestruck throughout the entire session; I couldn't help but be inspired by the depth, sophistication and rigour of Pauls' approach! If you're looking for a flood of perspective, feedback and knowledge - this is it! I loved the accelerated and rigorous process, even though, at the same time, I thought he had patience for the level that I was at. I felt so engaged; I had lost track of time, so immersed in the lesson I was, but I was always hoping we'd be far from the end, just so there'd be more time to delve further into music and opera. Similarly, I got the impression Pauls listened to every note, so focused was he in getting to know my voice and generous in his offer of feedback! As someone who has admired basses, baritones and everything in between for the longest time, to be in the presence of a genuine bass-baritone was yet another aspect to what an incredible and inspiring experience it was for me - be prepared to see the ceiling lifted by his magnificent voice!
Please note that I had started very nervously, this being the first private lesson I had set up anywhere at any time in my life, one among other reasons you can deduce from what I've previously written for the unsteady nerves. One among many truths that I had rapidly discovered within the first few minutes of the lesson was that I struggle with the high notes, but very soon after that, we had discovered my strengths - I had not expected myself to transition so quickly from a state of (brief) embarassment to a state of just being engaged and greatly thrilled to have been in that lesson, surfing on the wave of Pauls' intoxicating enthusiasm throughout. You could also say I got lost in his focus and engagement.

Initially, a small concern of mine was his asking rate, even though he is an artist who's perfectly justified in asking for a high rate, but for a limited price, i got out of the experience much that is priceless in life: motivation, drive, fuel poured generously into a burning passion for opera, music and art, and I am still awestruck when I return to the memory of that lesson.

I make no guarantee to anyone that they'll gain the same experience as me, nor that I'll ever get a repeat of that experience, but if you ask me about my first lesson with Pauls - this is honestly and immutably (can't go back and change the past) it.
