About Laura
I was born in Sicily and spent ten years in Bologna, where I earned a degree in Philosophy and Italian Studies at Alma Mater Studiorum. I’ve lived in London for the past decade, teaching Italian to adults and teenagers at different levels. I’m also a translator, with a focus on Animal Studies and the Arts. Among other things, I enjoy cinema, art, travelling, collecting wild herbs, and reading. Above all, I love teaching: every student brings a new perspective, and seeing their confidence grow as they unlock the language makes this work both rewarding and a shared discovery.

My teaching approach starts with the student. I take care to shape each lesson around your goals — why you want to learn Italian and what you’ll use it for — as well as your personality and learning style. My aim is to create a relaxed environment where you can embrace the challenges that naturally come with learning a new language, while finding your rhythm and building confidence along the way.
I mostly use a communicative style with plenty of speaking and listening, and I break grammar into small, manageable steps, with lots of practice until it feels natural.
Since language is first and foremost a tool, I keep it practical and connected to what interests you most. To make Italian feel alive, I bring in authentic materials — articles, videos, news, posts, memes, and songs (don’t worry, I won’t ask you to sing!).
For teenagers, I put a strong emphasis on motivation by drawing on cultural products that spark their curiosity. This way, learning feels relevant, enjoyable, and inspiring, while still building the solid skills they need, especially when preparing for GCSEs.
