About LISA

Hi, I'm Lisa Hong. I help learners approach Japanese with a clear direction, practical strategies, and lessons adapted to their individual needs.

Instead of following a one-size-fits-all program, we'll focus on the skills that matter most to you and build them systematically.

Choose your learning focus
- Japanese from the beginning: Hiragana, katakana, kanji, essential vocabulary, and foundational grammar.
- Everyday communication: Natural responses, common expressions, conversations, and listening comprehension.
- JLPT and other examinations: Grammar review, vocabulary development, reading practice, listening exercises, and exam-oriented strategies appropriate to your target.
- Japanese for professional settings: Workplace communication, polite expressions, business vocabulary, and appropriate language for different situations.
- Japanese for travel and living: Transportation, accommodation, shopping, dining, and daily interactions.
- Stronger language skills: Improve fluency, accuracy, comprehension, and your ability to express more complex ideas.

Find out more about LISA

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I have been learning Japanese since childhood, which helped me develop both fluency and a deep appreciation for Japanese language and culture. Over the years, my passion for languages continued to grow through study, practice, and meaningful experiences communicating with others.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

I really admire Hayao Miyazaki as a representative of Japanese culture. His works beautifully reflect Japanese emotions, imagination, nature, and the importance of human connection.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

One Japanese phrase I especially love is “一期一会” (ichi-go ichi-e), which means treasuring every meeting because it may happen only once in a lifetime. I think it reflects the beauty and sensitivity of Japanese culture.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking Japanese matters to me because language is more than communication — it is a bridge to culture, emotions, and understanding people on a deeper level. Teaching Japanese allows me to share that passion with my students.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

One of the biggest difficulties in learning Japanese is kanji and sentence structure, especially for beginners. However, with consistent practice, patience, and enjoyable communication, students can improve naturally and gain confidence step by step.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

One memorable experience was seeing one of my students confidently have their first natural conversation in Japanese after months of learning. It was a simple moment, but seeing their excitement and genuine connection with the language reminded me why I love teaching so much.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Communicating with Japanese people and learning about Japanese culture through media, conversations, and personal experiences has helped me improve my understanding of the language and teach it more naturally and practically.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

I believe what makes me a Superprof is my patience, empathy, and ability to create a relaxed and encouraging learning environment. I always want my students to feel comfortable, enjoy the learning process, and become more confident using Japanese in real life.
