About Amira
Hello, my name is Amira Hersi, I am a third-year English Co-op student at the University of Toronto. I heard about this job position through Linkedin and was immediately drawn to it because of your mission statements of passing knowledge to students and fulfilling my passion for tutoring. My goal is to create an environment that is safe and inclusive for all identities. My previous experience as a program assistant at Aaniin Community Centre and tutoring experience has helped me develop my communication and interpersonal skills. I always make sure to adapt to each of my program attendees' needs and the the students I was tutoring to help them improve their learning.

I approach my English classes by revising or teaching phonetics. With new students, I assign them an assessment to see their level, this ensures that I can pinpoint strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, I make sure that from the results of the assessment, I am creating worksheets or finding worksheets that address any of their weakness and work through them together. Throughout the class, I make sure I am communicating with my students about their progress and asking them if they need help, even if they have yet to ask. This makes sure my students can become comfortable with speaking up and asking me questions. I always want to maintain a positive and focused environment during my classes, to ensure we are working effectively to improve students' learning and make the most of sessions
