About Julia
Hi, I’m Julia, and I’m currently studying Law at a top 20 UK university. I’ve always been passionate about English Literature and Classical Civilisation, and I really enjoy sharing that interest with others. I’ve spent a couple of years working as a tutoring assistant, and during that time I discovered how rewarding it is to help someone understand a topic they thought was difficult and see their confidence grow. I want to teach because I know that learning can feel overwhelming at times, and having someone guide you through it can make a huge difference. My aim is to make lessons clear, interactive, and enjoyable, so that students feel supported while also developing their own skills and ideas. I’m excited to work with you, help you reach your goals, and show that these subjects can be both challenging and fun.

My approach to tutoring is very student-centred. I start by assessing the student’s current level and identifying their goals, whether that’s exam preparation, improving essay writing, or building confidence. I break down complex ideas into manageable steps and encourage discussion rather than just giving answers, so the student develops their own understanding. I use questioning, short practice tasks, and model answers to help them see what success looks like, and I try to bring in context and comparisons to make lessons engaging — for example, linking themes in Shakespeare to modern issues, or connecting Classical texts to ideas students already know. My lessons typically last one hour, as I find that’s the right amount of time to cover content in depth without overwhelming the student, though I adapt for younger learners with shorter, more interactive segments. I am a Law student at a top 20 UK university with a strong academic background in humanities, and I worked for two years as a tutoring assistant while completing my GCSEs and A-levels, supporting younger students with their studies. This gave me valuable experience in explaining difficult concepts clearly and adapting to different learning styles. I also developed strong communication and people skills in part-time work, which helps me to engage students effectively. I tutor English Literature at any level, from early secondary up to A-level, and Classical Civilisation at A-level. My lessons are particularly suitable for students seeking exam-focused preparation, essay writing support, or broader help in understanding texts and ideas.
